As of the census[3] of 2010, there were 108 people, 50 households, and 30 families residing in the town. The population density was 720.0 inhabitants per square mile (278.0/km2). There were 56 housing units at an average density of 373.3 per square mile (144.1/km2). The racial makeup of the town was 95.4% White, 0.9% African American, and 3.7% from two or more races.

There were 50 households of which 26.0% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 46.0% were married couples living together, 8.0% had a female householder with no husband present, 6.0% had a male householder with no wife present, and 40.0% were non-families. 32.0% of all households were made up of individuals and 18% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.16 and the average family size was 2.77.

The median age in the town was 44 years. 22.2% of residents were under the age of 18; 7.4% were between the ages of 18 and 24; 20.4% were from 25 to 44; 36.2% were from 45 to 64; and 13.9% were 65 years of age or older. The gender makeup of the town was 51.9% male and 48.1% female.

Yankton, South Dakota

Yankton is a city in, and the county seat of, Yankton County, South Dakota, United States. The population was 14,454 at the 2010 census. Yankton is the principal city of the Yankton Micropolitan Statistical Area, which includes the entirety of Yankton County, and which had an estimated population of 22,702 as of July 1, 2015.[9] Yankton was the first capital of Dakota Territory. It is named for the Yankton tribe of Nakota (Sioux) Native Americans; Yankton is derived from the Nakota word I-hank-ton-wan ("the end village").[10]

Yankton is located on the Missouri River just downstream of the Gavins Point Dam and Lewis and Clark Lake and just upstream of the confluence with the James River. The United States National Park Service's headquarters for the Missouri National Recreational River are located in the city. The Human Services Center was established as a psychiatric hospital in 1882 and is on the National Register of Historic Places.

Yankton is commonly referred to as the "River City",[11] due to its proximity to the Missouri River and the importance that the river played in the city's settlement and development. Yankton has also earned the nickname, "Mother City of the Dakotas", due to the early important role it played in the creation and development of the Dakota Territory, which later became the 39th and 40th U.S. states of North and South Dakota.[12]

Mottled wood owl

The mottled wood owl (Strix ocellata) is a species of large owl found in India. They are found in gardens and thin deciduous forests adjacent to dry thorn forests or farmland. They are easily detected by their distinctive tremulous eerie calls at dawn and dusk. The characteristic call is a duet of the male and female while other notes include a low hoot and a screech. Their large size, lack of "ear" tufts and the concentric barring on the face make them easy to identify.

This large owl lacks ear tufts and is mottled and vermiculated in reddish brown and white. The face disc is marked with fine concentric black and white barring. The sexes are alike. The chin is white.[2] The eyelid is orange and the iris is dark brown.[3] The tail is barred narrowly in brown and black.[4] The concentric barring on the face and mottled crown separate it from the brown wood owl in southern India.[5]

The species is found in the plains in gardens and lightly wooded habitats. They roost in trees during the day choosing a branch with dense foliage. An old specimen from Lahore is noted but no records in recent times from Pakistan. The distribution extends east to West Bengal.[5]

White River, South Dakota

As of the census[3] of 2010, there were 581 people, 211 households, and 135 families residing in the city. The population density was 1,117.3 inhabitants per square mile (431.4/km2). There were 245 housing units at an average density of 471.2 per square mile (181.9/km2). The racial makeup of the city was 48.9% White, 0.3% African American, 40.6% Native American, 0.3% Asian, 0.9% from other races, and 9.0% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 2.1% of the population.

There were 211 households of which 39.8% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 38.4% were married couples living together, 17.1% had a female householder with no husband present, 8.5% had a male householder with no wife present, and 36.0% were non-families. 28.9% of all households were made up of individuals and 10.4% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.52 and the average family size was 3.01.

The median age in the city was 39.4 years. 28.9% of residents were under the age of 18; 7.9% were between the ages of 18 and 24; 20.3% were from 25 to 44; 24.6% were from 45 to 64; and 18.2% were 65 years of age or older. The gender makeup of the city was 46.8% male and 53.2% female.

Whitehorse, South Dakota

As of the census[3] of 2000, there were 141 people, 37 households, and 31 families residing in the CDP. The population density was 52.7 people per square mile (20.4/km²). There were 43 housing units at an average density of 16.1/sq mi (6.2/km²). The racial makeup of the CDP was 2.84% White, 94.33% Native American, and 2.84% from two or more races.

There were 37 households out of which 64.9% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 32.4% were married couples living together, 37.8% had a female householder with no husband present, and 16.2% were non-families. 16.2% of all households were made up of individuals and none had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 3.81 and the average family size was 4.10.

In the CDP, the population was spread out with 52.5% under the age of 18, 7.8% from 18 to 24, 28.4% from 25 to 44, 9.2% from 45 to 64, and 2.1% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 16 years. For every 100 females, there were 80.8 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 97.1 males.

Whitewood, South Dakota

As of the census[3] of 2010, there were 927 people, 374 households, and 232 families residing in the city. The population density was 1,448.4 inhabitants per square mile (559.2/km2). There were 392 housing units at an average density of 612.5 per square mile (236.5/km2). The racial makeup of the city was 91.9% White, 0.8% African American, 3.7% Native American, 0.1% Asian, 0.3% from other races, and 3.2% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 2.5% of the population.

There were 374 households of which 33.4% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 46.8% were married couples living together, 8.3% had a female householder with no husband present, 7.0% had a male householder with no wife present, and 38.0% were non-families. 30.7% of all households were made up of individuals and 12.3% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.44 and the average family size was 3.05.

Willow Lake, South Dakota

As of the census[3] of 2010, there were 263 people, 115 households, and 68 families residing in the city. The population density was 710.8 inhabitants per square mile (274.4/km2). There were 129 housing units at an average density of 348.6 per square mile (134.6/km2). The racial makeup of the city was 92.0% White, 7.2% from other races, and 0.8% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 8.0% of the population.

Wilmot, South Dakota

Wilmot is a city in Roberts County, South Dakota, United States. The population was 492 at the 2010 census. Wilmot, as well as Brookings, SD, were named for Wilmot Brookings, who was provisional governor of the Dakota Territory.

As of the census[3] of 2010, there were 492 people, 208 households, and 122 families residing in the city. The population density was 1,004.1 inhabitants per square mile (387.7/km2). There were 237 housing units at an average density of 483.7 per square mile (186.8/km2). Winner, South Dakota

Winner is a city in Tripp County, South Dakota, United States. The population was 2,897 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Tripp County.[7] Winner also serves as the administrative center of neighboring Todd County, which does not have its own county seat.[8] The nearest airport is Winner Regional Airport.

Winner, located in the south central part of the state, features a climate type (Köppen Dfa) often described as a hot summer humid continental climate. Winters average below the −3 °C (26.6 °F) persistent snow line isotherm, and Summers average above 22 °C (72 °F) Köppen hot summer isotherm. The climate features nearly even four seasons, typical of its classification. The all-time high temperature is 112 °F (44 °C), set in 2003 and 1965, and the all-time low temperature is −29 °F (−34 °C), set in 1989.
